German Chancellor Angela Merkel announces the official launch of the Zukunfstcharta.

Berlin, 24 November 2014 - Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance has congratulated the German Government on the successful launch of the Zukunftscharta (Future Charter) at a high profile event in Berlin on Monday.
German Chancellor Dr Angela Merkel was flanked by children representing civil society organisations as she received the charter document from Federal Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development Gerd Müller.
The charter daws together findings from consultations, which began in April 2014, with non-governmental organisations in the development sector, churches, associations, key policy makers and other committed citizens. Together, each was called to draft a document in which they state the future world they would like to live in.

Gavi CEO Dr Seth Berkley paid tribute to the hard work that has enabled the Government to engage with a wide range of groups focused on improving the lives of people around the world.
During a panel event he said: “Congratulations Germany on the Zukunftscharta - what an exciting way to engage people in the future of our world and I hope other governments will be able to follow your lead.”
Dr Berkley was joined on the panel by Parliamentary State Secretary Thomas Silberhorn and Professor Dr Stefan H.E. Kaufmann, Director of the Department of Infection Biology at the Max Planck Institute. He welcomed Germany’s leadership in the hosting of the Gavi replenishment conference and the commitment to increase funding to Gavi for the 2016-2020 period.
During the keynote session both Chancellor Merkel and Minister Müller underlined the importance of vaccination and highlighted Gavi as a perfect example for multilateral cooperation.
