Minister of Health, the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia

Yifru Berhan Mitke

Yifru Berhan Mitke was appointed as Minister of Health for Ethiopia in November 2016. A medical doctor by training, specialised in obstetrics and gynaecology, he has played a significant role in mitigating and fighting disease outbreaks such as typhoid fever in hospital settings.

Prior to his ministerial appointment, Minister Mitke was the Dean of the College of Health Sciences, Addis Ababa University, where he still holds the rank of Vice President. Previous positions held by Minister Mitke include Dean of the Health Sciences College and Senate member at Hawassa University (2005–2014), Lecturer at Dilla College of Teachers Education and Health Sciences, Medical Director of Dilla Hospital and Head of Bule Wreda Health Office.

Minister Mitke has a medical degree from Addis Ababa University School of Medicine (Ethiopia) and has published more than 70 articles in distinguished national and international journals both individually and as part of a team.
