Aid Transparency Index 2013

Geneva, 24 October 2013 – The GAVI Alliance has been ranked second out of 67 international development organisations, including UN agencies and donor governments, in a leading international aid transparency league table published today.

Publish What You Fund's 2013 Aid Transparency Index (ATI), currently the only global measure on aid transparency, credits GAVI for making significant improvements in the amount and quality of data made publicly available in line with International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI) standards.

“GAVI is committed to openness and transparency when delivering on its mission of protecting the poorest children with life-saving vaccines,” said GAVI Alliance CEO Dr Seth Berkley. “Donors and implementing countries rightly expect to know how funds are being spent and that they are having the best possible impact.”

GAVI’s ranking puts it in the top category of organisations rated for transparency alongside the US Millennium Challenge Corporation, the UK’s Department for International Development and the United Nations Development Programme.

Transparency is a key pillar of development – a necessary condition to enable effectiveness, accountability and social change. The report congratulates GAVI for having one of the most ambitious transparency implementation schedules and recommends that it continues to lead on aid transparency.

Next week GAVI will hold its Mid-term review meeting in Stockholm where partners will review progress against goals set in June 2011. The meeting will consider the Mid-term review report, issued last week, which highlights the Alliance’s successes and challenges since 2011.

In 2012, GAVI was ranked 13th in the ATI, compared to 35th place in 2011.
