Proposal for NVS - Pneumo support: Yemen

The government is applying for approx. US$ 23 million over two years from GAVI to support the introduction of pneumococcal vaccine into its routine immunisation schedule. Co-financing amounts to approx. US$ 730,000. The application is based on the disease burden and WHO recommendations and is seen as essential to reduce child mortality and morbidity in Yemen. The country's cMYP has been updated accordingly. Yemen is requesting the vaccine in its currently available PCV-7 composition.

Proposal for NVS - Rota support: Nicaragua

According to a study, rotavirus causes 10 million cases of diarrhoea in Latin Ameria and the Caribbean each year. Nicaragua aims to make immunisation against rotavirus sustainable in order to reduce child mortality and is requesting GAVI support until 2012.

Proposal for NVS- Pneumo support: São Tomé and Príncipe

The government seeks GAVI support to introduce the Hib antigen as part of the pentavalent vaccine into the routine immunisation schedule and thus extend the range of vaccine-preventable diseases children are protected from. The decision was based on the considerable burden from Hib infections, not only through under-five mortality but also through morbidity.

Proposal for NVS - Penta support: Lao People's Democratic Republic

The government is requesting GAVI support to introduce the Hib vaccine as part of pentavalent into the routine immunisation system. The decision for application was made based on WHO's estimate that some 4% of child deaths in Lao PDR occur due to Hib infections.
