Revolutionising cancer prevention with vaccines

Evidence of the link between infections and certain cancers is a recent advancement and opens the opportunity to develop vaccines that protect against their occurrence. Hepatitis B vaccine protects against an infection which is a primary cause of liver cancer. Human papillomavirus vaccines helps prevent an infection that causes virtually all cervical cancer.

Global vaccine action plan 2011-2020

The Global Vaccine Action Plan (GVAP) ― endorsed by the 194 Member States of the World Health Assembly in May 2012 ― is a roadmap to prevent millions of deaths by 2020 through more equitable access to existing vaccines for people in all communities.

The GVAP aims to strengthen routine immunization to meet vaccination coverage targets; accelerate control of vaccine-preventable diseases with polio eradication as the first milestone; introduce new and improved vaccines; and spur research and development for the next generation of vaccines and technologies.

Closing the Cancer Divide: a blueprint to expand access in low and middle income countries

Alleviating system wide barriers to immunization

The Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad) in 2004 coordinated a GAVI workplan area seeking to explore ways to address system-wide barriers to immunisation.
