Gavi collaborates with the Global Fund in the vast majority of Gavi-supported countries

Geneva, 15 November 2017 – Dr Seth Berkley, CEO of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, has welcomed the appointment of Peter Sands as Executive Director of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

“Peter Sands is an excellent choice to run the Global Fund and I’d like to send him my warmest congratulations,” said Dr Seth Berkley. “The Global Fund is a strong partner for Gavi. Our organisations share a common goal: to tackle some of the world's deadliest diseases and help people across the world lead full, healthy lives."

From joint investments and data sharing to common fiduciary mechanisms, Gavi collaborates with the Global Fund in the vast majority of Gavi-supported countries. Gavi, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, and Unitaid are for instance partnering to provide funding for the first phase of the RTS,S malaria vaccine pilot programme.

“I look forward to working with Peter and his team as we soon move into shared headquarters next year,” said Dr Berkley. "This move presents a great opportunity to work together even more closely, helping us both to become more innovative, more effective and ultimately to have an even greater impact on the lives of the world's poorest people.”

Gavi and the Global Fund are set to both move into Geneva’s new Global Health Campus in 2018. The site will bring together some of the world’s leading health organisations.
