Vaccine sovereignty

As of 2022, 19 countries had transitioned to fully self-financing, meaning that they’re now financing their own vaccination programmes. That’s happened for two reasons: firstly, because their economies have grown enough that they have the means to cover the cost of protecting their populations, and secondly, because they’ve decided vaccination is worth that continued investment. Meantime, a growing proportion of Gavi-supported countries are paying for a growing proportion of the vaccines they deploy.
