World Photography Day is a celebration of the stories we capture through our lenses – bookmarks in the pages of time, history, and place. Following this year’s theme, ‘Pandemic lockdown through the lens,’ we’re celebrating the health care workers who protected their communities over the past two and a half years of unprecedented turmoil.
Throughout the pandemic, volunteers and health care workers have been the driving force behind the successful COVID-19 vaccine rollouts that allowed countries to open back up. Driven by locally-led outreach and a commitment to caring for their communities, health workers have been spotted trekking mountains, navigating oceans, and creating creative solutions to reach people in the hardest to reach places. Check out seven of our favourite shots of healthcare workers from around the world, doing their bit to keep their communities safe.
