Biography
Pascal Barollier is Gavi’s Chief External Engagement, Communications & Advocacy Officer, leading a multidisciplinary department of experts in communications, global and regional advocacy; institutional, country & vaccine information; media relations; online publishing; and internal & change communications. The External Engagement, Communications and Advocacy (EECA) Department integrates external engagement activities globally and regionally, including advocacy and communications supporting Gavi priorities in all markets.
From 2016–2025, Pascal also led the Knowledge Management & Technology Solutions (KMTS) team, overseeing the development and implementation of Gavi’s digital platforms. The move from basic IT tools to full cloud capabilities enabled the Gavi Secretariat to work remotely from day 1 of the COVID-19 pandemic; and to commence further digital transformation integrating artificial intelligence (AI).
Certified as a Board Director with a diploma from the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) in Lausanne, Pascal leverages his Board governance skills and experience to support Gavi’s programmatic efforts, reputation management and stakeholder engagement.
Before joining Gavi in 2013, Pascal was vice president of global external communications at Sanofi Pasteur. Previously, he was a journalist for Agence France-Presse (AFP) for 18 years; and he co-founded a magazine and web agency specialised in digital content. Pascal graduated from the Institut d’études politiques (Sciences Po) in Strasbourg, with a major in Public Administration. He has received executive education from ESMT Berlin business school; and he was the recipient of a fellowship to attend Indiana University’s Master’s degree programme at the Ernie Pyle School of Journalism.
