29 April 2025 – Despite global progress, immunisation coverage remains a challenge, especially in hard-to-reach communities.

Civil society organisations (CSOs) with their strong local roots, play a vital role in bridging this gap through targeted engagement and awareness-raising.

To mark World Immunization Week 2025 in April, Gavi CSO fund manager mechanism grantee, Association for Mothers and Newborns (AMAN), in partnership with Zindagi Trust, launched a series of impactful events and campaigns in Pakistan.

A highlight was an awareness-raising event at Khatoon-e-Pakistan Government Girls’ School in Karachi, aimed to educate students and teachers on:

  • the life-saving benefits of vaccines
  • dispelling myths and building trust in immunisation
  • fostering advocacy and responsibility for vaccine equity within schools.

The event drew strong participation from students from grades 6–10, teachers, health experts and community members.

Activities included:

  • talks by representatives from CSOs, UNICEF and local and national health; bodies on the role of immunisations in disease prevention and public health
  • an interactive ‘Vaccine: Truth or Myth’ game to challenge misinformation;
  • an interactive vaccine timeline wall tracing milestones – from the eradication of smallpox in 1980, to the roll-out of the HPV vaccine in Pakistan; and
  • a student art competition on ‘What vaccines mean to me’, with winning entries celebrated at the event.

In parallel, AMAN ran a week-long, multi-platform digital campaign across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn and YouTube. The campaign featured videos, photos and testimonials from youth, mothers and teachers tackling vaccine hesitancy and highlighting the impact of immunisation.

As speaker Farhan Essa put it:

“Together, let us raise awareness about the life-saving power of vaccines and work towards a future free from vaccine-preventable diseases.”
