Onei Uetela joined World Vision as Senior Advisor for Immunization and Infectious Diseases in September 2023. Previously, Dr Uetela worked as Research and Teaching Assistant at the University of Washington where his work focused on developing and testing implementation science tools and methods to improve data systems and workflows for health services at primary health care facilities in Mozambique.
Dr Uetela has supported the UNICEF Latin America and the Caribbean Regional Office to research on the determinants for zero-dose children in the region and to develop a strategic plan for immunisation to strengthen UNICEF and government immunisation programs in the region. He was an Immunization Specialist for UNICEF in Mozambique, leading UNICEF’s support to the MoH for health systems strengthening for immunisation. During this time, Dr Uetela played a pivotal role as Lead of the Vaccine Logistics Technical Working Group.
Dr Uetela has also worked as Family Planning Officer with Pathfinder International in Mozambique. He has also worked as a Physician, Paediatric HIV Director and District Medical Officer for the Ministry of Health in Mozambique.
Dr Uetela is currently completing a PhD in Global Health/Implementation Science at the University of Washington. He also holds a Masters of Public Health from the University of Liverpool with a focus on the management of Health Systems, a Diploma in International Public Health from Instituto de Salud Carlos III/Escuela Nacional de Sanidad Spain, and a Degree in Medicine from Eduardo Mondlane University.
