Lena Nanushyan

First Deputy, Minister of Health, Armenia 

Lena Nanushyan was appointed as the First Deputy, Minister of Health, on 26 January 2021, after having served as Deputy Minister of Health since 2018. Dr Nanushyan started her career at the Health Policy Department of Ministry of Health of Armenia in 2002. 

Dr Nanushyan has more than 20 years of experience working in health sectors in middle-income country settings fostering health system strengthening, primary health care, supporting various programmes that address public health (tuberculosis, HIV/ AIDS, maternal and adolescent health, immunisation, health and social systems, and others). Between 2003 and 2012 she served as an expert for the Standing Committee on Health under the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, concurrently teaching at the School of Healthcare Management. She also served as the Programme Officer in the UNAIDS Armenia Country Office from 2013 through 2018. 

Dr Nanushyan holds a preventive medicine physician qualification from Yerevan State Medical University. She undertook further specialisation under the Organisation of Healthcare Programme at the National Institute of Healthcare. She earned her Master of Public Health degree from the American University of Armenia (2003-2005).
