Leone Gianturco is Head of Global Public Goods at the Department of Treasury in the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance and policy lead in G20/G7 Finance Track discussions on Global Health.
Since 1997, he has served as a government official dealing with international affairs in various Italian public institutions. From 2001 to 2002, he participated in the negotiations for the establishment of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (the Global Fund). He then served as a member of the Global Fund Resource Mobilization Committee until 2005.
In 2006, he oversaw the creation of IFFIm and supported Italy's participation as a founding member of the initiative. He also worked to launch the Pneumococcal Advance Market Commitment (AMC). From 2007 to 2009, he supported Italy’s Board Member, physician Alberto Mantovani. He then served as Gavi Alternate Board Member in 2010–2011.
As a development economist specialising in Africa and International Affairs he served in the Cabinet (2011–2012), in the Tax Department (2013–2016) and the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (2016–2020). From 2020 to 2005 he has been co-chair of the Italian delegation at the Paris Club and the Common Framework Creditor Committees. In 2024–2025 he acted as Finance Track Focal Point in the process and negotiations leading to the Fourth Financing for Development Conference in Seville.
