Dr Monique Vledder
Health Director, World Bank Group
Dr Monique Vledder is the World Bank Group Health Director and Director of the Global Financing Facility, where she leads the WBG health agenda and oversees teams across the World Bank, IFC, the GFF and the Pandemic Fund, focusing on health access, pandemic preparedness and response, and growing the health value chain.
Dr Vledder brings over 25 years of global health leadership, having shaped health financing strategies, led institutional reforms, and built multi-stakeholder partnerships across Africa, Asia, and Latin America. As Head of the Global Health unit, she designed the Health Target Implementation Plan for the WBG's first corporate target on health and repositioned the unit to align technical expertise with strategic priorities. She transformed the institution's approach to knowledge and learning through the WBG Health Academy and Impact program.
From 2016 to 2022, Dr Vledder headed the Global Financing Facility for Women, Children and Adolescent Health, where she led the design of the partnership business model and forged a coalition of over 20 donors that mobilized US$ 2.5 billion. She pioneered innovative private sector engagement approaches and built a country-driven portfolio across 38 countries that delivered measurable improvements in maternal and child health outcomes.
Dr Vledder holds a medical degree from the University of Amsterdam, a Master of International Health from Harvard, and a diploma in Health Economics from York University.
