Ryo Nakamura has been Ambassador, Assistant Minister/Director-General for Global Issues, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, since January 2025. After graduating with a Bachelor of Law from the University of Tokyo, he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1992. He also obtained a Magister Legum degree from Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg in Germany in 1994.
Ambassador Nakamura’s diplomatic career covers various fields ranging from political, legal affairs to regional affairs, including Director of Policy Planning Division and concurrently Director of the Division for the Promotion of Emerging Countries Policy (2011-2013), Director for Central and South Eastern Europe Division (2013-2015), Minister of the Embassy of Japan in Indonesia (2015-2018), Minister of the Embassy of Japan in Germany (2018-2021), Chief of Nagasaki Prefectural Police (2021-2023) and Director-General of Southeast and Southwest Asian Affairs Department (2023-2025).
