Won Do-Yeon

Director-General for Development Cooperation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Republic of Korea

Mr Won has held several roles at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MOFAT) since 2005, including as First Secretary at the Korean Mission to the United Nations and Other International Organisations, Geneva, Switzerland (2008-2011) and then as Counsellor for the Korean Embassy in Bangladesh until 2013. In 2013 he held the position of Director for Press Relations at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, and in December 2014 became Director for the Multilateral Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Assistance Division, at the Development Cooperation Bureau of the Ministry.

From 2016 to 2019 Mr Won worked as Counsellor to the Korean Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York. Returning to Seoul in August 2019, he took up the position of Chief of the United Nations Population Funds (UNFPA) Seoul Representative Office. Since March 2022, he holds the role of Director-General for Development Cooperation (MOFA).

Mr Won’s career began at the Ministry of National Defense (MND) and the Government Information Agency. He has a B.A in Political Science from the Seoul National University of Seoul, Korea. He also holds an MBA from the Yale School of Management.
