Geneva, 20 May 2025 – Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance welcomes the adoption today of the Pandemic Agreement at the 78th World Health Assembly. This achievement reinforces the world's commitment to building robust systems for pandemic prevention, preparedness and response, and will ensure we are better equipped to face future health threats. It is also a powerful testament to the strength of international collaboration in pursuit of a common goal, and our collective ability to learn from the past.
The Agreement recognises the indispensable role of immunisation in protecting communities, saving lives and preventing pandemics. Gavi stands ready to support this by institutionalising the learnings from COVID-19, from ensuring timely access to vaccines to surge financing, regional vaccine manufacturing and comprehensive global coordination.
Drawing on our 25 years’ experience increasing equitable and sustainable use of vaccines, Gavi is committed to supporting any next steps as laid out by Member States, including further negotiations on the Pathogen Access and Benefit-Sharing System (PABS).
