Brazil commits US$ 72 million to Gavi’s 2026–2030 strategic period, reinforcing its role as a key stakeholder in global health and vaccine manufacturing
The pledge will reinforce supply of yellow fever vaccine (which is manufactured in Brazil), protect Latin America against infectious diseases and help accelerate immunisation coverage in Africa
Brazil’s contribution underscores the importance of South–South cooperation and global solidarity to protect communities everywhere from life-threatening diseases
Belém, Brazil, 6 November 2025 – Brazil has announced a landmark pledge of US$ 72 million to Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance for the organisation’s 2026–2030 strategic period. The commitment reflects Brazil’s leadership in global health and its dedication to advancing South–South cooperation and protecting communities across Latin America and beyond.
Brazil’s pledge, announced on the sidelines of a Global Citizen Festival in Belém, Brazil ahead of the COP30 UN Climate Change Conference, demonstrates the depth of global collaboration when it comes to investing in vaccines as a way of protecting health, strengthening global health security and enabling prosperity. As well as contributing to Gavi’s goal of protecting 500 million children over the coming five years, the pledge will help ensure resources are available to protect neighbouring countries in Latin America, and bolster supply of yellow fever vaccine, which is manufactured in the country.
“Health is always the first to be affected when climate change happens. We will only be safe when the whole world is protected. People circulate and diseases circulate, which is why this global effort is about protecting everyone. Vaccines save lives,” said Dr Alexandre Padilha, Minister of Health of Brazil.
“Brazil’s pledge is a powerful demonstration of global solidarity and leadership,” said Dr Sania Nishtar, CEO of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. “As a vaccine producer and a champion of SouthSouth cooperation, Brazil’s support will help protect millions of children and families across Latin America, Africa and beyond.”
This latest commitment builds on Brazil’s previous engagement with Gavi under the COVAX Facility. It also represents an important boost to Gavi’s sixth five-year strategic period (Gavi 6.0), which begins in 2026. Following a successful summit in June 2025 which raised over US$ 9 billion for the 2026–2030 period, Gavi continues to negotiate with donors with a view to reaching its target of US$ 11.9 billion for Gavi 6.0.
