Nadeem Jan is an internationally recognised expert on public health, governance, and public policy, and was appointed as the Federal Minister for Pakistan’s National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination in August 2023. Prior to this, Dr Jan has worked with the United Nations, USAID, WHO, World Bank, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the European Union and National Governments in several countries.
Dr Jan has been instrumental in designing key functions of health ministries in Somalia, South Sudan, Kenya, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. In his own country, he was decorated with Tamgha-i-Imtiaz in 2018 and Sitar-i-Imtiaz in 2023 by the Government of Pakistan. For the same, the US Government also awarded him the “Meritorious Services Award” in 2012. He also received the “Presidential Award for Health Services” from the Somalian President in 2009 for his services to the country during 2006-2009.
Being a staunch supporter of resilient health systems, and an advocate of vaccine equity, Dr Jan contributed to Pakistan’s COVID-19 response strategy and his services were acknowledged by Pakistan’s National Command and Operations Center (NCOC). Dr Jan is a medical doctor, with a Master’s in Public Health, and a postgraduate diploma in health policy & management from Peshawar, Pakistan.
