George Laryea-Adjei

George Laryea-Adjei has served in UNICEF at country, regional and headquarter locations, including as Director of the Programme Group (currently), Senior Advisor for International Financial Institutions (IFIs), Regional Director for South Asia, Director of Evaluation, Deputy Director with responsibility for corporate strategy, Deputy Representative, and Chief of Social Policy. 

In South Asia, he played an instrumental role in the UNICEF response to COVID-19. Before joining UNICEF, George served as a Senior Analyst to the Planning Commission of Ghana, engaged in part-time university-level teaching, and worked with community groups on integrated development. He was a champion of high impact health interventions (including full immunisation) in Ghana, a strategy that helped to bring down under-five mortality in several deprived districts of the country. He also provided advisory and research services in several African countries, India and The Netherlands.

Dr Laryea-Adjei holds a PhD from the Faculty of Economics, Erasmus University in Rotterdam. He is the author of two books and several articles in peer-reviewed journals
