Rhoda Wanyenze is a Professor and Dean of the School of Public Health at Makerere University, a position she has held for the past five years. Dr Wanyenze has extensive experience in research, capacity building, programme management, and policy development in a broad range of public health areas especially in infectious diseases, sexual and reproductive health, and health systems.
Dr Wanyenze has expanded her work to address a broad range of health determinants within the sustainable development goals framework. She has extensive public health experience in Africa and has led a wide network of research partnerships with academic institutions and ministries of health in the region, including a partnership to enhance analytical capacity and data use (in TB, HIV, and Malaria) across 13 African countries. She has recently concluded an assessment of the COVID-19 response experience of five African countries.
Dr Wanyenze has vast governance experience and has served on Boards for organisations in Uganda and globally. She currently serves on the COVID 19 Scientific Advisory and the Vaccine Advisory Committees of the Ministry of Health, Uganda, as Board member of the Uganda AIDS Commission and Board Chair for Baylor Uganda. She has also served on the Board of The Global Law Enforcement and Public Health (GLEPHA), the Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA), as Board Member and Chair of the AIDS Information Center (AIC) Uganda, and The AIDS Support Organization (TASO). She is a Fellow of the Uganda National Academy of Science.
