The State of Kuwait became a Gavi donor on 10 August 2020 when it pledged US$ 10 million for the Gavi COVAX AMC. The second pledge of US$ 40 million from Kuwait was announced at the Gavi COVAX AMC Summit in June 2021.

Kuwait has a long-standing tradition of development and humanitarian assistance. Established in 1961, shortly after the country’s independence, the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development became one of the region’s earliest state-backed development finance institutions and has since supported development projects across Africa, Asia and other regions. Alongside its bilateral assistance, Kuwait has also channelled support through multilateral organisations, reflecting its broader commitment to international cooperation, including in global health and immunisation.
